What an in memory donation to Operation Smile can do

In rural Thailand, twins Ou and Lak were born with cleft lips and cleft palates. Their cleft conditions caused Lak to struggle when drinking milk and Ou to choke when being fed.

While surgery was an option, the family couldn’t afford the cost. Parents Wanna and Manus knew that without surgery, their sons faced lives filled with ridicule and exclusion.

Soon after the twins were born, they learned about an Operation Smile Thailand medical mission taking place in nearby Ubon Ratchathani, where a team of medical volunteers could perform surgery, free of charge.

Wanna was overjoyed with the results of her sons’ cleft lip surgeries. One year later, Lak and Ou returned to a mission in Surin and got their cleft palate surgeries that made eating and drinking effortless.

By providing access to free, safe surgical care, Operation Smile gave Lak and Ou more than just new smiles. It ensured that the twins would grow up happier and healthier with the promise of brighter futures.
